IL CORTILE takes its place in the garden of the former St. Pierre Monastery, within the walls of a school built under French patronage and designed by the Italian architect Gaspare Fossati. Inside the building stand rare remnants of the Galata walls, built by the Genoese in the 13th century.
The restaurant wraps around these ancient defensive walls — dining here means sharing a table with eight hundred years of history. What was once the schoolyard of Freres St. Pierre is today a courtyard filled with the scent of a wood-fired oven.
Our kitchen stays true to the Italian roots of the building's own history: simple ingredients treated with respect, recipes that need no introduction and the conviction that a good meal takes time.
